Training Course 'Cultural Awareness and Social Inclusion Through Dramatic Arts' 10 - 17 March 2026, Sfântu Gheorghe, Romania

Between 11 and 16 March, Sfântu Gheorghe became a meeting point for intercultural learning and international cooperation through the Erasmus+ training course Cultural Awareness and Social Inclusion Through Dramatic Arts. The project brought together 40 youth workers from 10 different countries — Romania, Hungary, the Netherlands, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Georgia — with the common goal of exploring how dramatic arts can be used to promote social inclusion, empathy, and cultural understanding.

Throughout the training, participants experienced a dynamic programme based on drama pedagogy, creative expression, and non-formal education methods. Using elements of the Stanislavski method, theatre exercises, trust-building activities, and non-verbal communication techniques, participants developed practical tools for working with young people from disadvantaged and minority backgrounds. The activities encouraged participants to step outside their comfort zones, reflect on stereotypes and prejudice, and better understand the importance of empathy and inclusion in youth work.

One of the most impactful aspects of the training was the creation of theatrical scenes and performances inspired by real social challenges. Through creative teamwork and storytelling, participants explored how theatre can break down barriers, challenge discrimination, and create meaningful dialogue between cultures. The group atmosphere throughout the week was supportive, emotional, and deeply collaborative, allowing strong personal and professional connections to develop naturally.

The programme also offered participants the opportunity to experience the local culture and community life of Sfântu Gheorghe and the wider region of Transylvania. They learned traditional Hungarian cockade-making from local craftswomen, visited the local Red Cross and the VET Center operated by StartUp HUB, and participated in the national celebrations on March 15th, experiencing the spirit of community solidarity firsthand. Additional visits to Săcele and the historic city of Brașov further enriched the intercultural experience and strengthened the bonds among participants.

As a final step of the training, participants designed and facilitated their own workshops, demonstrating the knowledge, creativity, and competences they had developed during the mobility. At the end of the project, all participants received their Youthpass certificates, recognising the valuable skills and learning outcomes gained throughout the experience.
